National Seminar on “Quality assurance issues in drug discovery and formulation development” was organized at Babaria Institute of Pharmacy, Varnama, Vadodara on 3rd and 4th December 2010.  

 

The Vice Chancellor Gujarat Technological University Dr.Akshai Agawam inaugurated the Seminar. Shri Jagdishbhai D.Patel, Chairman of the Institute and Managing Trustee presided over the Inaugural function. Dr. S.S Pancholi, Principal, Babaria Institute of Pharmacy convened the proceedings of the Seminar.

 

The Scientific Session of the seminar was started with plenary lecture on “Experimental Designing” by Dr. M.C Gohel, Principal, L .M College of Pharmacy. Following this, Dr. M.R Yadav, HOD, Pharmacy Dept, M. S University, Baroda elaborated the “Structure elucidation of organic compounds” in a lucid way. The aspects of “Formulation Development” were discussed in the second part of scientific session by Dr. Dipankar Bhadra, SunPharma Advanced Research Centre,Vadodara.

   

                                  The second day of the scientific session was started with an informative lecture on “Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics” by Dr.Bhaswat Chakraborty,Vice President, Clinical Research, Cadilla Pharma, Ahemedabad  followed by  Lecture on  “Innovations in Clinical Research” by Dr.Milan Satia ,CEO,Ethicare Clinical Trial Services.Ahmedabad. Dr.S.S Pancholi delivered a plenary lecture on “Total Quality Management” and described the overall Validation aspects. “Good Laboratory Practices” was discussed by Mr.Kamlesh Shah, Senior Scientific Assistant, FDL, and Vadodara.

 

In the seminar, 152 delegates including faculty members from different colleges participated and got benefited from the plenary lectures from eminent speakers from academics as well as industries.

 

 The valedictory Function was graced by Dr. R.K Goyal, Vice Chancellor, M.S University of Baroda, Vadodara. He appreciated the strength of Pharmacy curriculum of Indian universities with regards to technical orientation but emphasized the need of including more of clinical subjects to cater the current global needs.
